Reminiscnece 7th Progress: Changing Rooms.

Let's dive into a new mechanic that will keep you on your toes: Changing Rooms. This feature is designed to confuse, disorient, and challenge players as they navigate.

How It Works

The Changing Rooms mechanic will alter the layout of rooms, hallways, and other parts of the map when the player performs certain actions or reaches specific points in the game. You may think you’re walking through a familiar path, only to find that it’s changed entirely after you turn a corner.

  • Triggered by Actions: Specific actions, such as solving a puzzle or interacting with a key object, will trigger these changes. It’s a way to encourage exploration while keeping the player on edge.
  • Subtle or Dramatic Shifts: Sometimes the changes will be small, like a door disappearing or furniture rearranging itself. Other times, entire hallways will be replaced with new paths, making the environment feel unpredictable.

Design Intent

The purpose of this mechanic is to create a sense of uncertainty and tension. In a horror game like Reminiscence, the environment is often the most important tool for building suspense. By making the map itself change, we’re keeping players from ever feeling fully safe or oriented.

  • Player Progression: While it may seem disorienting, these changes are also designed to guide the player’s progress. Moving forward often requires adapting to these changes, forcing you to reconsider your path and approach.
  • Psychological Impact: The unpredictability of the environment taps into feelings of unease and confusion, further immersing players in the game's eerie atmosphere.
